What would Don Draper eat? Or Betty, Joan, and Roger for that matter. I recently had the opportunity to come up with desserts to reflect the personalities of Mad Men’s most colorful characters for a holiday party. I definitely didn’t want to simply do desserts from the 60’s—fondue and jello molds aren’t exactly finger food friendly. Instead, I really tried to think about the characteristics of each character and came up with a mini-menu that brings out a personality you can taste.
Don is a bourbon infused bittersweet chocolate truffle. I wanted it to be dark, complex, and boozy.
Betty is a lemon tassie with a dollop of lemon curd on top. These look cute, but definitely have a little bit of tartness under the surface.
Joan is a red velvet cupcake with orange zest, cream cheese frosting, and a hot tamale buried in the middle. This seems pretty self explanatory.
And finally, Roger is a buttered rum cookie. True to its name, it’s filled with butter and rum, just like its namesake, despite several heart attacks.
